… musste ich manchmal daran denken, was wäre, wenn ich jetzt zwölf Jahre jünger wäre und gerade mein Debüt „Becks letzter Sommer“ erschienen wäre. Wie ich mich monatelang auf die Buchmesse in Leipzig und meine allererste Tour gefreut hätte – und dann wäre alles abgesagt worden. Und im Herbst käme ja schon das nächste Verlagsprogramm und ich wäre untergegangen …
Wer also gerade in der Quarantäne nach einer tollen DebütautorIn sucht – jetzt wäre die Zeit dafür. Mir persönlich hat dieses Frühjahr etwa „Hawaii“ von Cihan Acar sehr gefallen.
In diesen Zeiten ist es aber auch wichtig, den Einzelhandel zu stärken. Die Bäcker, die Obsthändler, die verschiedenen kleinen Läden – aber auch den stationären Buchhandel, denn die kämpfen alle ums Überleben. In jeder Stadt und in jedem Ort gibt es Buchhandlungen, die sich wirklich darauf freuen, auch jetzt Bücher nach Hause zu liefern. Eine Nachricht oder ein Anruf reicht.
Und genauso ist es wichtig, an die zu denken, die schon vorher wenig hatten und nun erst recht auf Hilfe angewiesen sind. Ein Text, der bei allen Sorgen und Ängsten dieser Tage ein paar hoffnungsvolle Ansätze bietet, ist übrigens der hier auf Horx. Möge das Gute darin so gut es geht wahr werden.
Zum Schluss möchte ich mich noch den Worten von John Irving auf Facebook anschließen:

The past couple of weeks have been an adjustment for all of us — making arrangements for our own safety and the safety of our loved ones. I’m a writer — I’m used to enjoying self-isolation. Give it a chance; you’ll find things to like about it. (I’m a writer in my seventies with asthma; in these circumstances, I don’t have much choice!) And, as many of my readers have intuited, I don’t have a relaxed imagination. My advice: think only far enough ahead to shop for food effectively; try not to imagine the unimaginable.
I hope you are taking precautions and looking out for one another. As we shelter in place, I also hope you are finding some solace in the arts. I have — not least in uncertain times. Writing novels has been the greatest privilege of my life — my worst-case imagination notwithstanding. If you don’t find yourself with some newfound time to revisit your favorite novel, film, or series, then I thank you for serving your communities on the front lines of this crisis. We’re indebted to those of you who attend to our healthcare facilities, government offices, and grocery lines.
It’s time to be accountable as citizens, to safeguard not only our own health but the health of others. As citizens, it’s time to demand accountability from our political leaders, too. If there’s an election coming up, in the country where you live, please vote. We need responsible leadership in times of crisis. Stay safe, stay well.
